Preparation methods of Acetylene
- By the action of alcoholic potash on ethylene bromide :
- By heating Tetra bromoethane with Zinc :
- By the electrolysis of Aqeous solution or potassium salts of malice acid (Kolbe's electrolysis) :
- By heating Iodoform with silver powder :
- By partial oxidation of methane :
This reaction takes place actually in two stages. The intermediate product formed is
vinyl bromide.

From Natural gas :Acetylene is also produced industrially by the cracking of natural gas (CH4, C2H6) in an electric arc (1500°C).
