Kilograms and grams → grams
Method: Simply add three zeroes to the right of the weight in kg, to convert kg into g.
Example 1: Convert 5 kg into grams.
1 kg = 1000 g
5 kg = (5 × 1000) g = 5000 g
Answer: 5000 g
Example 2:Convert 6 kg 470 g into grams.
6 kg = (6 × 1000) g
= 6000 g
6 kg 470 g = 6000 g + 470 g = 6470 g
Answer: 6470 g
Exercise 10.1

1. | 10 kg | ______________ |
2. | 1 kg 321 g | ______________ |
3. | 5 kg 555 g | ______________ |
4. | 3 kg 430 g | ______________ |
5. | 18 kg 253 g | ______________ |
6. | 32 kg 560 g | ______________ |
Grams to kilograms and grams
Method 1: When the weight is exactly divisible by 1000, simply remove three zeroes from the right of the weight in g, to convert g into kg.
Example 3: Convert 9000 g into kg.
9000 g = 1 kg
9000 g = (9000 ÷ 1000) kg
= 9 kg
Method 2: When the measure in grams is not exactly divisible by 1000, i.e. when there is a remainder, then the quotient is written in kg, and the remainder is written in g. Or simply write last three digits in grams and remaining digits in kilograms.
Example 4: Convert 4640 g into kilograms and grams.
4640 ÷ 1000, Q = 4 and R = 640
Answer: 4640 g = 4 kg 640 g
