Ex 1:

How many equilateral triangles can you see in the figure below? (Assume side of the smallest triangle is 1 unit)

No. of triangles with side 1 unit = 16 (10 upward facing
      + 6 downward facing)
No. of triangles with side 2 units = 7 (6 upward + 1 downward)
No. of triangles with side 3 units = 3 (upward)
No. of triangles with side 4 units = 1 (upward)
Total no. of equilateral triangles = 16 + 7 + 3 + 1
= 27
